Henry Talbot Letters, 1823 (2 Items)

©2010 Norwich University Archives

American Literary Scientific & Military Academy buildings in Middletown, CT, from the journal of a pedestrian excursion, 1827 About Henry Talbot

Little is known about Henry Talbot other than that he was from Providence, RI, entered the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy (forerunner of Norwich University) in 1823 and graduated in 1825.

About the Collection

The collection consists of two letters from Henry Talbot to Benjamin Pierce of Scituate, RI, one dated 18 February 1823, and the other dated on 27 August. In the letters, Talbot speaks of his trip to Norwich, VT, in 1823 and records some general impressions of the Academy; however, his primary interest seems to be the female sex, his fellow textile workers back in Rhode Island and getting into “a damn high scrape” with his fellow cadets on a weekly basis.
