About the Collection
The collection consists primarily of files created and accrued by Elmer Munger during his tenure as dean at Norwich University. Elmer Munger succeeded Dean Lewis Perry upon his death in 1963. The papers of both Munger and Perry are represented in the collection. More information on the collection can be found in the content listing below.
About Elmer Lewis Munger
Elmer Munger was born in Manhattan, Kansas, in 1915. He received a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University in 1936 and a master’s degree in applied mechanics in 1938, also from Kansas State. He taught at Iowa State University from 1948 to 1957 and earned his Ph.D in theoretical and applied mechanics there in 1957. Elmer Munger joined the Norwich University faculty in 1958 as head of the civil engineering department. He served as dean from 1963 to 1968. Munger left Norwich in 1969 to teach engineering in Puerto Rico and was succeeded as dean by Loring Hart. He married Vivian Bloomfield and the couple had three children.
